Naturaline – Organic and fair
Coop Naturaline represents feel-good fashion made from pure organic cotton that is produced using fair and environmentally-friendly production methods. Together with Red Cross-based Remei AG, we are a global pioneer in fairly traded organic cotton and are currently the biggest provider in this area.
The philosophy of Naturaline can be easily summarized: 100% fair production, 100% organic cotton, 100% transparency in the supply chain and 100% CO2 neutrality.
Pure organic cotton from India and Tanzania
Our Naturaline textiles must be manufactured from fairly traded organic cotton. Those textiles are cultivated and processed by around 6’000 farmers in India and Tanzania, in accordance with the bioRe standard.
Our guidelines for organic cotton
Organic agriculture also offers a resource-friendly alternative for cotton, enabling production without any health risks and without the need for small-scale farmers to rely on loans. Organic cotton growing uses techniques such as crop rotation and producing compost and natural crop protection agents to generate sustainable yields. More stable ecosystems and the move away from monocultures reduce yield loss in the event of drought or pest infestation.
More principles for organic cotton cultivation:
- Ban on genetic engineering
- Ban on chemical and synthetic pesticides and fertilizers
- Defoliation agents prohibited
- Measured use of water thanks to drip irrigation systems
- Low energy consumption thanks to low degree of mechanization
Not just the cultivation, but also the processing procedure for Naturaline textiles is environmentally friendly and not harmful to health. The use of chemicals is very tightly regulated, and hazardous chemicals are prohibited in all stages of production. An independent monitoring body reviews the various processes on a regular basis.
