Operational water management

Water is a vital resource. We use it in many areas, including production, our office buildings or outdoor areas. Strict water management is essential to ensure that we have sufficient water available.

To save precious drinking water resources, we must also use rainwater and water that has already gone through its first use.

Not all water is the same

Since 2011, we have therefore made a distinction in our reporting between drinking water and ground water (blue), rainwater (green) and process water (grey). Of the 4 million or so cubic metres of water we consumed in 2012, 91.3 percent was drinking water and 8.4 percent ground water. Just 0,3 percent consisted of rainwater, and process water has so far been barely used. Aside from reducing total water consumption, we are therefore working towards using more green and grey water in the future.
