Coop posted further growth in 2019. Adjusted for exchange rates, sales increased by 1.3% to CHF 30.7 billion. Net sales in the retail business increased by 1.4%. Wholesale / production grew by 2.6% after adjusting for exchange rates. Once again, Coop was able to gain customers and market share, particularly with its supermarkets.

Net sales in the retail business were up 1.4% to CHF 18.0 billion. Net sales at Coop supermarkets rose year-on-year by CHF 44 million, to CHF 10.5 billion. Customer footfall increased by 2.5%. In the specialist formats, net sales rose by 2.6% to CHF 7.5 billion. It was particularly gratifying to see growth at Livique/Lumimart increase by 2.0% to net sales of over CHF 200 million.

Wholesale / production
Net sales in wholesale / production increased by 2.6% to CHF 14.2 billion after adjusting for exchange rates. The Transgourmet Group consolidated its position as Europe’s second-largest cash & carry and wholesale supplies business.

The Coop Group’s online business amounted to CHF 2.6 billion and grew by CHF 238 million. In retail, net sales from the online business accounted for CHF 914 million (+16.4%), with the Coop@home online supermarket growing by 5.4%. The online shops in the home electronics segment (Microspot, Nettoshop, Fust and Interdiscount) grew by 17.5% to over CHF 600 million. In wholesale, the online business posted net sales of CHF 1.7 billion (+7.1%).

Sustainability sales grew by CHF 126 million to over CHF 4.2 billion, with Coop therefore retaining its undisputed number one position in the field of sustainability.
