Glögg (Scandinavian mulled wine)

This is needed
for 8 people
Glögg
- 7 dl red wine (dry)
- 150 g cane sugar
- 0.5 dl cognac or vodka
- 1 organic orange, zest peeled with a peeler
- 2 cm ginger, in slices
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 6 cardamom pod, crushed
- 5 cloves
- 50 g raisins
- 50 g almond slivers

And that's how it's done
Glögg
Pour the wine into a pan and add all the other ingredients up to and including the cloves. Place the raisins and almonds in a small muslin cloth, tie up the cloth with a piece of kitchen twine, add to the wine. Cover and bring to just below the boil, turn off the heat and (without removing the lid) leave to infuse for approx. 2 hrs.
To serve
Remove the muslin parcel. Strain the mulled wine and return to the pan. Transfer the raisins and almonds from the muslin to the pan, heat the wine once more, serve hot with the orange slices.
