Caramel brown colour, very intense and varied aromas of honey, caramel, roasted nuts, toast, dried fruits, raisins and coffee. On the palate, sweet, rich and powerful, with notes of toffee and hazelnut. The finish is very long and lets the varied aroma palette emerge once again.
Tawny describes the brownish colour of this style of port wine, which must be aged in large wooden casks for at least 8 years. The ages of the wines matured even longer in the barrel (10, 20, 30, 40 years) stand for the average storage time. With increasing storage time, the wines become ever more complex and also rarer. Tawnys are ready to drink when they come onto the market.
