J.Vignier is based on a friendship between two families – one German, one French – that goes back three generations. Nathalie Vignier’s family has produced wine for ten generations and for the last six in Cramant, a village designated Grand Cru. Nathalie’s great-grandfather Henri was one of the first wine producers in the Côte des Blancs region to bottle and sell his own champagne (1924). In the first decade of the new millennium, Sebastien Nickel and Nathalie Vignier started to seek out new growing areas and to produce wine. They began selling these wines under the J.Vignier label in 2015. The bases for J.Vignier champagnes are: 1. Individual vineyards. Select choice locations characterized by the soil, microclimate and flavour of the grapes. 2. Pure Chardonnay. All wines are produced exclusively from Chardonnay grapes and are thus blanc de blancs. 3. Minimal intervention. The grapes’ origin is what should be tasted, not wine-producing skills. 4. Long bottle maturation. The wines develop their full flavour potential only after four to ten years, as well as a fine, elegant effervescence. 5. Extra brut. They are bottled with very little dosage. The wines are thus all dry.
