Deep, almost opaque ruby with a big core. Full aromas on the nose. Fruity and spicy, with hints of sour cherries, raspberries, Mon Chéri, herbs, rye bread, toast and a touch of vanilla. Pleasant and multi-layered. A robust entry, distinct acidity, lively and perfectly integrated. The chewy tannins are of good quality and ripe, and the aromas on the nose stage an encore. Full body with lots of texture. Long and persistent finish.
The grapes for this pure Merlot come from the estate’s best vineyards, between Bolgheri and Castagneto Carducci. Guado al Tasso long ago discovered the potential of the variety for this location and began experimenting with it. But it was not until the 2011 vintage that the law allowed wines to be bottled from 100% Merlot. After being picked by hand according to rigorous selection criteria, the grapes are gently pressed. Fermentation takes place in French barriques, 30% of which are new. After the first eight months of barrel ageing, the batches are combined and returned to the barrel to age for another four months. After bottling, the finished wine is stored on the estate for a further six months.
