Château Pierre 1er Saint-Emilion AC Grand Cru 6x 75cl
Jean DutruilhUntil 1985, owner Jean Dutruilh was one of the world’s best mogul skiers, notching up several victories in this demanding discipline. Today he is the owner of the 11-hectare Château Pierre 1er, which he took over from his father. The vines are an average of 37 years old. 80 percent of them are Merlot, the rest Cabernet Franc – a classic combination for this appellation. Château Pierre 1er’s vineyards are opposite those of the famous Château Figeac on a hilltop with perfect drainage. This fantastic terroir is one of the main reasons the estate harvests and vinifies very ripe grapes every year. 59-year-old Jean Dutruilh takes no chances when it comes to vinification and has been working with the great Bordeaux specialist Michel Rolland for years. This star oenologist is a family friend who provides advice during vinification. Pierre 1er wines are always full and structured, yet with a delightful finesse that makes them enjoyable at any age. Intense blackberry, plum jam and cinnamon aromas with a touch of coffee and vanilla from the barrel. Powerful and punchy palate with lots of extract, concentrated dark berry fruit, sweet creaminess, well integrated oak and a long, full, warm finish.
