Dieser Wein ist eine spanische Weinikone aus der berühmten Kellerei Torres. Miguel A. Torres hat als Weinbaupionier die Rebstöcke persönlich in der Einzellage "Mas La Plana" gepflanzt. Das war im Jahre 1966. Die 29ha grosse Lage war erst noch neben Cabernet Sauvignon mit Tempranillo und Garnacha bestockt worden. Schon bald aber stellte sich heraus, dass der Cabernet Sauvignon eine aussergewöhnliche Qualität hervorbringt. So entschied man, dass der Wein fast ausschliesslich aus Cabernet Sauvignon bestehen soll. Ein sehr ungewöhnlicher und mutiger Entscheid in Spaniens Weinwelt aus dieser Zeit. Zur Legende wurde der Wein 1979, als der erste Jahrgang bei der Gault-Millau-Weinolympiade in Paris höher als Château Latour bewertet wurde und alle grossen Bordeaux auf die hinteren Plätze verwies. Heute ist der Mas la Plana immer zu 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Torres gehört zu den bedeutendsten Protagonisten im spanischen Weinbau und verfügt neben den 1500 Hektar Weinland in Spanien ebenso über Reben in Chile und Kalifornien.
