The Scala Dei winery has its origins in the Scala Dei Carthusian priory. The grapes come from the vineyards of DOC Priorat. Primarily influenced by the volcanic slate soil, the DOC has very dry summers with no rain at all for up to three months. The roots of the vines therefore have to go very deep into the cracks in the slate soil in order to find water and nutrients. The Scala Dei winery is especially committed to this microclimate and is gradually improving its technical equipment. Today, Scala Dei mainly produces Reserva wines that are noted for their balance and particular structure.
