A new generation of young female winemakers is creating a stir. One of them is German winemaker Katrin Wind, whose Pinot Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc whites have been exclusive to Mondovino since the 2017 vintage.
She aims to produce unadorned, pure, expressive wines that are specific to their terroir.
Despite having just six hectares of vines, this “garage winemaker” conjures up honest, elegant wines. The committed, quality-focused young winemaker aims to produce wines that are not excessively aromatic or too high in alcohol. Like many of her colleagues, Wind received a good training at Geisenheim University.
Whites predominate in the winery of up-and-coming Pfalz-based winemaker Katrin Wind. Her garage business produces only 20,000 or so bottles a year.
That she does so ever more compellingly with each passing year is proven by her Sauvignon Blanc, her Pinot Blanc house wine and her higher-quality Landschneckenkalk Pinot Blanc. The new 2021 vintage is available exclusively from Mondovino.
