They are situated at 320 metres above sea level. The entire property covers an area of 1,200 hectares. Of these, 110 hectares are used to grow grapes. Sangiovese dominates the red varieties with a share of 80%. Ciliegolo, Montepulciano and Cabernet Sauvignon make up the rest. Vermentino is the most-grown white grape. The winery is run according to the principles of organic winegrowing. Castello ColleMassari belongs to Claudio Tipa who established it with his wife and sister. It was the fulfilment of a childhood dream. The first vintage to be bottled was in 2000. Tipa also owns Grattamacco in Bolgheri and Poggio di Sotto in Montalcino.
