Philippe Varone represents the 4th generation of a family which has been cultivating grapes in Sitten since 1900.
The vines belonging to Varone winery, run by the family's 4th generation, are in unique locations.
He has established an impressive reputation for his company, due not least to his passion for upholding Valais' winemaking heritage by using ancient grape varieties from the upper Rhone valley (including Petite Arvine, Humagne Blanche, Cornalin and Humagne Rouge) and choosing unique growing locations. Together with Bonvin he created the "Bibacchus" brand of Valais specialities which have been available at Coop for almost 20 years.
He has been active in industry associations for several years and is currently the president of the Société des Encaveurs de vins suisses (society of Swiss winemakers), which is dedicated to maintaining and promoting Swiss winemaking heritage.
His innovative tasting method allows each guest to discover the virtues of various Valais wines using all five senses and in line with their individual personality and preferences.
As a pioneer in wine tourism, he offers guests a spectacular experience of a day (or longer) among the terraced vineyards, giving them an in-depth insight into the methods used by the brave to cultivate grapes high on these slopes amongst towering stone walls and refreshing irrigation channels (suonen).
