Domaine la Capitaine
In vineyards covering a total of 11 hectares between Lausanne and Geneva, Parmelin and his team cultivate 12 different grape varieties – both red and white. Located in the heart of the wine region La Côte, they are part of five different appellations. The soils vary significantly, from chalky to acidic, loose to heavy, which gives the wines a unique flavour. To ensure only the best grapes are used for their wines, the Domaine La Capitaine vintners harvest them by hand.Domaine La Capitaine is a pioneer in certified organic winegrowing in Vaud. The winery was awarded the Bio Suisse bud label in 1994 as its vintners eschew the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Only natural crop protection measures that have no damaging effect on the soil or the wine are permitted, and the same applies during wine production. The vintners do not use chaptalization, or add sulphites to the grape must or as preservatives, which is particularly good for those with allergies. The Domaine La Capitaine signature wine is its fresh and fruity Chasselas, but its specialities in their striking slim blue bottles are also very popular – they include Gewürztraminer and Gamaret. Also no longer an insider tip is the Domaine La Capitaine vintners' Johanniter. This wine, produced from the fungus-resistant grapes of the same name, won the award for Best Organic Wine in Switzerland at the Grand Prix du Vin Suisse three years in a row. The winery's Chardonnay, its Sauvignon Gris and its red Merlot blends have consistently ranked high in renowned wine competitions.Discover fantastic wines from Vaud and other Swiss regions.
