Today he owns the eleven-hectare Château Pierre 1er, which he took over from his father. The vines – 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc – are an average of 36 years old. The vineyards are situated on a hilltop with optimum water drainage. Every year this terroir produces fully ripened grapes, and therefore powerful, concentrated wines. Star oenologist Michel Rolland, a friend of the family, advises on vinification.
The value for money is exceptional: the wines are full-bodied and structured, and their ample finesse makes them fun to drink at any stage of maturation.
