The Lignier-Michelot family domaine cultivates its eight hectares of vineyards with great passion. This passion – for the wine itself and for the profession of winemaker and oenologist – is always palpable at tastings of young wine: it comes to the fore in the wines, which inspire and thrill.
The Domaine Lignier-Michelot was founded at the beginning of the last century by Virgile Lignier's great-grandfather. Like most domaines, it sold its young wine to the trade rather than bottling it on site. The great leap forward in terms of quality and innovation was initiated by Virgile Lignier, who has a degree in agriculture and oenology. The Domaine has been selling wines under its own label since 1992, and Virgile has been running the winery since 2000. He started buying grapes from prime vineyards to expand the range, and in addition the domaine's name was changed from Lignier to Lignier-Michelot to distinguish it from the other Ligniers in Morey-Saint-Denis. The vineyards have been organically cultivated since 2010, and success has proved Virgile Lignier right: the wines are exceptionally good. Robert Parker has discovered them, and only rarely does any of them score less than 90 points.
