Marchesi Antinori

No other business has shaped the Italian wine industry quite like Marchesi Antinori. The aristocratic Florentine family has been producing fine wines for more than 600 years and has created a business empire which is now in its 26th generation. Heading up the company are the three daughters of the patriarch Piero Antinori: Albiera, Allegra and Alessia. The company owns numerous estates – in Tuscany, Umbria, Piedmont, Napa Valley (California), and Chile. An impressive new wine cellar and architectural masterpiece was recently opened at Chianti Classico, the heart of Antinori. CEO and head oenologist Renzo Cotarella has overseen the extensive range since 1979. The stylistically modern, perfectly vinified, high-quality creations always display authenticity, individuality and terroir. Antinori made wine history with the Tignanello. First launched in 1971, the "Super Tuscan" became the standard for great wine. The storable 2016 vintage, which is currently on offer, is one of the greatest vintages of Tignanello. The Chianti Classico Riserva 2016 is an attractively priced alternative.
Signature varieties of Guado al Tasso
Antinori created another icon in the Tuscan wine region of Bolgheri. Guado al Tasso is a Bordeaux blend with a high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon as well as Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a little Petit Verdot. This wine is the antithesis of the Tignanello. It has a warm character, while the Tignanello is powerful. However, both are long-lasting and full of finesse. A pure Merlot is also produced at the Guado al Tasso estate. The top-notch Cont'Ugo 2018 is a full-bodied wine displaying complex aromas, freshness and length.
